THE ORIGIN STORY

One Senior Skip-Day in May of 2013, Kevin ventured back onto school grounds when he could have been literally anywhere else. He wandered into an ongoing art class where open-studio time was taking place and where he would (almost) unknowingly say hello to his future wife.

Vathay, preoccupied with whatever art project was spread out in front of her and socializing with classmates, didn’t even realize Kevin had been looking. In front of her was a cardboard box covered in sharpie drawings which held a ukulele that she would sometimes play during breaks at school. Uncharacteristically, he felt compelled to talk to her. He walked up to her to compliment her impressive sharpie drawings — the perfect conversation opener!

To this, she said,

“Oh! Thank you so much but, actually, the drawings are not mine.”

Womp. Womp.

His grand plan was foiled. And so, they never, ever spoke again.

Just kidding! Vathay would begin posting her own works online to which Kevin always remained an avid and very present supporter. They became great friends over the course of a year, sharing their love of music, art, movies, and the outdoors. Bonding over similar values, the same weird brand of humor and also learning from each others’ different lenses for viewing the world helped them to see what a priceless gift they had both been given from the universe. By the end of that year on April 14, 2014, they would declare themselves officially dating!

There were many hurdles and tribulations amidst much beauty in the 10 year-long chapters that have made up their love. And now, with their new addition— their cat, Moon Shadow — and a beautiful proposal in Iceland, it is time to step into their newest chapter together, officially, as fiancés!

We are so, so, SO, appreciative of everyone in our lives who have unconditionally embraced us, supported us and carried us through the toughest times and also the greatest of times. You’ve made it all that much more possible for us to pursue such an immense piece of our happiness.
